We intend to fulfill promises still, so when you speak like we've already decided not to, it's pretty disheartening. We took a break to reflect, gather backer feedback and figure out our best plan of attack. For instance due to the injection issues with the DLC (we actually got quite close to done, the issue was adding the new content breaks almost everything in every aspect of the older parts of the game to the point we may as well remake the entire thing, it would take less effort) we came up with the idea of possibly making Torque's DLC into a prequel game using the FP2 engine and Spade's into a 1.5 sort of deal that bridges the gap between the games and tells the story of how he saved his brother. I'm sorry youn feel discouraged at the rate things are taking but the issue over the DLC has actually led to some ideas and programming tasks that are going to possibly be better than anything we originally planned. I've actually been deeply transparent about those reasons and I ask you to review them. There are reasons it's taken so long that you're ignoring to attempt this lecture. Surprise us by releasing it when it's done. If you're going to have DLC at all, don't even tell us. So just focus on making the core game amazing. ![]() I know FP2 is going to be amazing, because you're an amazing team that does amazing work. That way, if/when it doesn't exist, no one will be all that annoyed, and no one will feel obligated to receive it. If you're determined to do DLC anyway, at least make it paid DLC only. And if you do make claims of future DLC characters and stories with FP2, it will HURT sales, because people will be disinclined to believe those claims and may choose not to buy FP2, whether or not those happen on time. Because you will always be haunted by the spectre of FP1's DLC, even if you DO somehow release the additional characters and stories, and we would rather you just release a solid, complete game than feel burdened by promises made before you realized they were infeasible. We'd rather just see a quality FP2.īut when you DO release Freedom Planet 2, Don't Bother With DLC. You could release it now or in the future, and it wouldn't make a difference. If it gets canceled, it will annoy us, but we'll get over it. ![]() He even said that the current priority is FP2 and not FP1 DLC.Ĭlearly, working on it at this point is costly and onerous and your team doesn't want to do it. Going forward on this isn't going to accomplish anything but making you miserable. Later in the thread Strife goes into how Kickstarter obligations are the only thing keeping the work on this DLC going. That would be a bit of a mess and a hassle for you and for the players, especially if you want to bring those to consoles. For starters, your team is considering making each of the currently missing DLCs a separate game. Given Strife's State of the DLC post 2 months ago, I don't understand why you feel that the FP1 DLC is going to be or should be finished at all. So don't say the new engine is a cure-all for issues in FP2, because that's never true. It may be easier to program for and make a better game, but it's always a risk. You have no idea yet what hurdles you're going to run into with the new engine. Maybe the FP1 engine wasn't easy to work with, but you'd at least know what difficulties to expect. You would face fewer surprises if you stuck with the same engine for FP2. ![]() Is that supposed to make people believe that you're not going to find new issues and bugs and difficulties now that you're switching to an entirely new engine? If anything, that's going to create more of them or at least different ones. You're switching to a new engine for FP2. No amount of wordsmithing will change that, alright? Own it. They're over a year late from estimate, or more. Given how the DLC has gone with FP1 (You've released Milla Adventure mode and that's it), it's not premature at all. And continuing to work on it may be a mistake that hurts you and hurts FP2.
